- What does your position entail?
Oversee the day to day operations of the Fitness Center and group exercise spaces. Develop and implement fitness and wellness programs including personal training, group exercise classes, fitness assessments, and special events and programs related to well-being. Provide leadership and development for undergraduate and graduate student staff. Master’s Degree in Exercise Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing fitness programs, policies, and procedures. Staff training and development experience. Certification from a nationally recognized association in group exercise and personal training. Certification in CPR and First Aid. Minimum one year experience in a higher education recreational sports setting (two years of graduate assistantship in higher ed/recreational sports will count as one year of professional experience). Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Why did you want to work at the Rec?
All throughout my undergrad I worked for campus recreation and loved working in an environment that promoted healthy lifestyle choices, student development, and gave me the opportunity to plan fitness related programs.
- What is the most exciting aspect of your job?
Having the freedom to run and develop fitness programs and plan exciting events to get the students and members involved
- What is one thing you can’t live without for your job? (examples: coffee, a planner, a computer program)
- What is the most beneficial aspect of your job?
Seeing students develop and use the skills they learn while working at the Rec to move on to full time careers or further their education.
- What do you like to do in your free time?
Exercise, trivia night with friends, compete in 5k races and other road races, photography, play with my dog
- Why did you want to work at OU?
I love the campus, it’s a great work atmosphere, and I look forward to seeing OU’s campus grow in the coming years.
