Ashley works down in the Fitness Center as one of our Fitness Assistants. She has been working at the Rec since September 2014 and is a “Super Senior” this year gearing up for the real world. Her major is Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention with a concentration in Exercise Science.
Why did you want to work at the Rec?
After changing my major to WHP, this job seemed like a logical step towards my goals in fitness and wellness.
Honestly, I chose this major based on how I’ve become more confident due to lifting. I believe in myself and my capabilities and want to show others the way of the weights if they choose the road of enlightenment.
What is your favorite part about working here?
Helping people with their form and answering questions about strength training.
What transferable skills have you acquired that will help you in the future?
Communication between different departments and working with others. Also, becoming confident enough to utilize my knowledge I have gained from my classes, as it directly applies to my life.
What are your favorite Rec activities?
GroupX! I’m not a competitive person to participate in sports so GroupX is a perfect way for me to switch up my workout regimen and actually include cardio in my life.
When you’re not at the Rec, what are some things you like to do?
I like eating. A lot. Sometimes I play “Cooking Mama” and then I eat some more.
What are you looking forward to?
Finishing this chapter and moving onto the next. I feel like I am ready for the next “big girl” step in my life.
What are your plans for the future?
When I get enough money to pay for Cosmetology, I’m headed to beauty school. I am recently certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) as a personal trainer. My end goal is to help people reach physical and performance goals. I plan on competing in a figure show after graduation as well.
FUN FACT: My eyebrows are GR8.
