Gabrielle (Gabby) Sokol is our new Club Sport & Intramural Coordinator, coming straight out of her graduate work at the University of Mississippi. A native Indiana Hoosier, Gabby started her involvement with intramural and club sports after attending a job fair her undergraduate freshman year at Indiana University. Coming into Oakland University, Gabby tells us that she is “most excited to meet all of the students that [she] will get to work with, and getting acquainted with Oakland University”.  She plans on “attending as many club sport events as possible” this semester.

John Luk, one of our new Graduate Assistants, was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States back in 2007. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a double major in sport management and economics with a minor in psychology. Luk also got involved with Campus Recreation in his freshman year and quickly moved through the ranks to become Supervisor and then Program Assistant for intramural sports. A massive fan of soccer, Luke is “definitely looking to attend ALL the home soccer games, and probably at least one home game for each club sport”. Luk decided to come to Oakland University because of our Director, Greg Jordan’s legendary reputation; “people told me that he is the GOD of NIRSA”.

Riley Gelking, our second new Graduate Assistant is also a native Midwesterner, hailing from Minnesota. Gelking has his undergraduate marketing degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he worked as an Intramural Supervisor and as a Campus Ambassador in their Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For Gelking, “OU seemed like a great fit from the moment [he] got on campus”. For him, Oakland “seemed like a good opportunity to be apart of something fresh”. Gelking is hoping to win his first Intramural Champion t-shirt his first semester as a Graduate Assistant. He is also excited to see our own national title winning Football Club in action along with becoming familiar with the rest of our club sports this semester.
