New Employee Spotlight – Scott Mcintyre

Scott Mcintyre is a Senior, majoring in Criminal Justice.  He began working here at the rec this summer of 2015, as one of our Fitness Assistants.  Only being here for just a month, our fellow rec employees have made him feel welcomed as we build up our rec family.

Why did you choose your major?

I just like helping people and really like that style of work.  It is very transferrable to what I was doing before.

Why did you want to work at the Rec?

I was a marine and was very active during that time and have sort of strayed from it.  I figured being here and being surrounded by people who are dedicated to fitness would help me get back on track.

What is your favorite part about working here?

The people.  As soon as I got hired in everyone was very accepting.  It’s a real tight knit group here and it’s really cool.

What transferable skills have you acquired that will help you in your future?

People skills the most.  I learned doing this job that you have to be able to talk to people in a certain way to come across helpful and that you are in their best interest.  For example, when you are correcting someone or answering questions, you have to do it in a way that is respectful, friendly and upbeat.

What are your favorite Rec activities?

I haven’t gotten a chance to explore the activities that are offered but I will be teaching the Bodyweight Bootcamp GroupX class in the fall.  So I hope I like it!

When you’re not at the Rec, what are some things you like to do?

I play hockey and golf.

How do you stay active and healthy?

I do something active everyday.  I typically workout 4 days a week and play hockey or golf on the weekends.

What are you looking forward to?

I’m nervously excited to start teaching.  It’s going to be a new thing for me and I think I’ll really enjoy it.

Fun Fact: I was a marine for 5 years and I also enjoy watching HGTV, much like Stephanie.
