You’ve probably seen them around – or heard them at least. They’ve got fabulous new shirts, a ton of new freebies, access to small vehicle, and more importantly, more spirit than ever! Yes: it’s the OU Campus Rec Street Team out in full force. With exciting new events, like doing a yoga class in the middle of campus, or doing “Parking Lot Raids” with their pimped out (and bumpin’) Toro, the Street Team is constantly working toward their ongoing goal: Promote the heck out of the Rec!
These passionate Street Teamers are all employees of the Rec Center and participate on the Street Team on a voluntary basis – that’s how dedicated our student employees are! But the most energetic Street Team member of all? That’s their fearless student leader Charlotte Budd. Recently, we sat down to chat about the Street Team and what it’s all about.
According to Budd, the Street Team this year is better than ever. There are more people, promotions and prizes (that cool alliteration is Budd’s own.) The Street Team is working hard to attend as many campus events as possible and reach out to as many students, faculty, alumni and other campus community members as possible.
One of the coolest things about Street Team this year, says Budd, is all the new “I Am OU Campus Rec” gear/swag. The Street Team also has new prizes likes screen cleaners, pens, coupons, tattoos, pizza cutters (whaaa?) and tons of other stuff that they are just waiting to give away.
So what’s so great about the Rec that it has an entire team of people to promote it on their free time? Well, as Budd says, the Rec is a positive force on campus that has so many opportunities for people to get involved and interact. There truly is something for everyone: Intramural sports, group exercise classes, Employee Wellness programs, fitness programs, personal training, and of course, working out in the Fitness Center or shooting hoops in the 3-court gym.
Besides handing out free stuff and benefitting the campus community, the Street Team is also a great opportunity to work with fun people and to meet others, says Budd. Street Teamers are always looking to interact with new people, have a conversation about the Rec, and get new people involved.
So, if you haven’t caught up with “the team” yet this year, be on the lookout for the OU Campus Rec Street Team at all kinds of events on campus all throughout the rest of the semester. Team members are there to answer your questions and give you free stuff! I can’t think of anything better!
